Religious freedom has always been associated also with a sort of vague societal bias against significant influence by religion on political matters. This is, of course, nonsense when viewed in the context of historical reality, as the Founding Fathers and also their Founding Documents make unequivocal and repeated references to not only the efficacy of our faith but also its proper and central place in our whole political fabric. Nonetheless, we should understand that our spiritual values not only impact our political thinking, they should be permitted to inform them as well. For example, when deciding whether or not a political party's candidate should be our votes, questioning how that person views the errant idea of men marrying each other is fair. Our moralitybased and founded in our religious viewstells us that this is not just a bad idea, it is morally wrong. Likewise with issues of national and homeland defense. It is incumbent on us as faithful people to be good stewards of the lives and welfare of our peoplefriends, family, neighbors, countrymen and women. If a candidate is wrong-headed on the subject of that defense, say, preferring to treat mass murder and acts of war as law enforcement matters to be handled with subpoenas and FBI investigations, his views are antithetical to ours as moral folk who must treat the lives of those around us as a sacred trust and ourselves as stewards. If we think straight and again, allow ourselves to be informed by our faith, such errors in judgment will be avoided. Otherwise, with only the media to trust, who knows what happens?!
I have missed listening to Greg. I have been out of town for several weeks.
