I do not have clear evidence that he committed any criminal act, but I've got a bad feeling that it's coming.

Farah is 90% right. This behavior can't be tolerated under any circumstances, especially those that present a crushing blow to the party's reputation. We lower ourselves in trying to maintain him. The party is bigger than any one man. This is no time to get unpredictable. Everyone knows what needs. to be done about this clearly disturbed man. Anything short and we become as loathesome as these vindictive leftist, at least in my own eyes.

Foley really is a genuine disgrace and it bothers me that the leadership wasn't more assertive in disciplining this man sooner.

Democrats can only capitalize on this matter as they do with everything else: by default. They'll over-extend on this, as they've already shown with their insincere disgusts on left-wing radio and the cable shows.

On moral politics, they've always lived on the guilt of the righteous and that's something that hasn't gone past the attention of voters in this country. Their reputations as ethical and moral relativists is well established with the public. Their party is so fundementally debased that they can't dare even present a nobler face to the nation.

In the end, all they got is "See? They're just as corrupt as us!" This is their clarion call. The sort of thing that's supposed to inspire pride in their base.

Take Foley to the limit and be done with it quickly. In doing so, make sure your disgust is far more emphatic and genuine. The country will take note and reward us in the end.

I suspect that this, rather than any perverted stuff Foley did (and don't think we've heard it all yet), will be most damaging to Republicans. Get EVERYTHING out, who did what, and try to duck as many falling chips as possible.

This is my point exactly. Foley brings GREAT SHAME to this party and we should not be out-done in the public's mind about which of the 2 parties showed more zeal in dealing with it. Democrats live on scandal and this varierty is the kind they savor the most. Laying Foley to waste by our own can only frustrate Democrats to no end.

They need this issue badly. They'd love to ride this story for another 3 weeks. We can either give it to them or end it immediately. There is no other option.

Perhaps the only possible way to make this worse will be to float some legalistic defense of this slimeball.

I think that Farah (and others like him) are realizing that the choice is between th lesser of two evils, and that gap is narrow.

Hate to say it, but if this was a Dem, FReepers would be screaming to high heaven about the "cover up". But since it is one of our own, many here are trying to paint it as harmless consensual talk between an old man and a 16 year old boy.

Screaming "The other side is worse!" is not an effective way to lead.
