They're on an emotional rollercoaster right now as we head toward the mid-term elections. The polls look good, but then gas prices head down; a Republican gets indicted for something, but then Howard Dean says something really stupid, etc... They're suffering so much angst because their hopes have been dashed so many times before. And it's doubly frustrating because only they, with their superior intellect, see the truth! They try and try, but they can't get anyone to listen. It's like a feverish nightmare from which they cannot awaken. BOOHOOWAWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Possibly. I've wondered from time to time whether DU was just one gigantic spoof site used by some diabolically clever conservative to parody libs. Much of it is just that outrageous. But then I realize that no one could be that consistently funny over such a long period. It has to be real!

Yes, exactly. That's why I almost said that this person needs to get outside more. Or at least away from the computer. Step away from poison people, who only reinforce and magnify the negative delusions.

I think it starts by falling into the trap of believing you have the one true truth, in spite of what your senses might be telling you. You are among the enlightened few, who see things as they really are. You are part of a group. You actually belong somewhere. You fit in. Believe what your leaders tell you without question. It is all very cult-like.
