"There is a lot more conservatives can do, but the most important thing conservatives can do is this: Keep the Republican party conservative, and keep it winning... by abandoning the Republicans, we lose both, and America suffers."

"So this means voting for RINOs because they have a (R) behind their name. So Rove can put 300 RINOs in office & that's OK? That's keeping the R party conservative?"

I said what I said, not what you said.

In primaries, NEVER vote for the RINO. Deal with RINOs in primaries, and DONT STAY HOME for ANY election. If you want political power, USE IT. The best way to advance conservative principles is to always vote for the most conservative candidate who is electable.

I am not aware of 300 "RINOs in office", but I would prefer a RINO element in the Republican majority than to see Speaker Pelosi and the treason Democrats running the House and voting to impeach Bush, gut any proposal to fight the war on terror and forcing a cut-n-run in Iraq.
You are wrong to say Rove is only helping RINOs.
Rove came to Austin last month and helped raised money for Texas conservative Republican candidates and gave a very conservative speech. Cindy Sheehan hated it.

Seriously, there is a chasm between the Dems and GOP.

"That's keeping the R party conservative?"
Look, Garf the conservative won the AZ-08 primary.
Please help him win... you want conservative victories?
HELP CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS TO WIN ELECTIONS.
I am not asking you to help any RINOs. Find a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN IN A TOUGH RACE AND HELP HIM OUT.

It's more like trading a rusty Camaro in for a rustier Yugo because you wanted a Corvette...

You forget that, in order to gerrymander the districts, they still had to take control in the first place.

Oh please! Much of what you say about state houses is true and did have an impact, but Newt was the vocal and ideogical leader of a previously defeated bunch of House Repubs. He helped in recruiting candidates nationally, he led the fight to take down Jim Wright, he co-authored most of The Contract.

He didn't appoint himself Speaker...he was elected by his fellow members. And,in case you weren't aware...in 1992, the Dems were still in control of the Georgia State House, and tried their best to re-district Newt out of Congress, by eliminating his district and putting him up against an incumbent Dem.

He outfoxed them by moving into a newly formed district close by and winning there...thus becoming my Congressman.

John Galt realized that at some point the only way to defeat the system was to join it and help accelerate its demise.

Personally I feel that we are not at that point but the time is close (or possibly could be close depending upon future events). Right now I would rather try to inform and fight back (read - vote).

You're getting closer with that John Galt bit. However....what no one has done is thoroughly READ the piece -- nowhere do I state I actually VOTE for those Democrat bastards! The only Democrat I voted for in the last election was for sheriff, because he is a good cop and an honest man. The rest of my voting was 80% Republican and 15% independent.
