The Chicks' current single 'Not Ready to Make Nice' flopped. They've had trouble sell tickets on their tour and have been forced to book smaller venues. But their current album 'Taking The Long Way' has been a modest hit. It's been on the Billboard Hot 200 album chart for 13 weeks. It opened at #1, but has been falling fairly quickly and is currently at #35 (down from #27 last week). It has been certified platinum, which means at least one million units have been shipped. I don't know the album's current sales figures.

I don't know if disinterest is the right word. I expect it, like the comments they made starting the whole incident, to backfire on them.

Maybe you could just watch your language? You know...show a little class, some civility?

How could this possibly be an election issue? Maybe I'm missing something. Who is going to vote for or against anyone because of the Dixie Chicks? Are they running for office or hoping for a pity party.

You are obviously not familiar with my "Dixie Chicks Election Indicator" Hypothesis.

I contend that the reception received by the Dixie Chicks Concert Tour is a far more accurate indicator of public sentiment than anonymous polling. When you ask somebody to buy a concert ticket, you are asking them to surrender something of value in order to get something. Lots of people say they are sympathetic to the Dixie Chicks, but they are not willing to support them when it means money out of their pocket. Their support is not deep and not committed.

Similarly, when you ask for a vote, you are asking for something of value. People only get to vote once every couple of years, so they think about how they spend it. Now people might give token support the the standard package of anti-Bush, anti-War, anti-Everything clap-trap, but when you ask them to vote for it, I think they will be similarly reluctant to plunk down a vote to support it.

Just my two cents.

"Shut up and Sing", the title of their tour...

Wow, where have I been? I didn't even know that. Irony indeed! What was their reasoning for picking that title I wonder? Who else could it be applied to that they disagree with? All the politicians, talk show hosts, and Americans that have criticized their idiocy aren't singers by trade. They can't mean all the conservative-leaning artists because they are surely a minority and tend to stick to singing rather than pontificating. The Ditsy Chicks the only ones this could apply to...and yet they don't adhere to the sentiment. Amazing the depths of their idiocy.

What's a topic spam? (seriously)
I think it is when you select topics for a post that do not reflect the post's content. Like selecting "breaking news" if your post is 6 years old. Try it sometime. You might find that you like it. The cost is all the nags, finger-waggers, tut-tutters, and gain-sayers who will denounce you in their fatwas and fund-raising letters.

Actually, "Shut Up and Sing" is the title of the movie about the tour. If the Dixie Chicks had the wit and intelligence to name the tour "Shut Up and Sing", it would have indicated some humor and appreciation for the position they put themselves in. Instead they went pompous, and call the tour "The Accidents and Accusations Tour".

Nobody cares about their politics except themselves, but they can manage to annoy everybody, if they try hard enough.

Why should she watch her language with a self-appointed language-police person like you available? Now go you forth and content-edit the rest of the web. Apparently you have the time. And the inclination.

Ohh...now I see. Thanks for the clarification. So it was the movie producers were trying to be ironic.

Do you even know what she said? If you do and you find it acceptable, then why don't you head on over to DU and sign up, because if you've been at FR long, you know that FR is too classy for that kind of language. Deal with it.
