His support in non-Rockefeller Republican areas is as permanent and substantial as a summer rain puddle on a hot sidewalk.
If we think about electability, as opposed to merits, then Rudy certainly puts NY in play, which would be a huge blow to the Dems.
On the other hand, I'm guessing he would have some problems in the South, for the reasons several folks have mentioned. In Florida, the fight in 2000 between two Southerners was a virtual tie. Might not Gore beat Rudy in Florida? If the Democratic nominee is a Southerner like Clark, Edwards, or Warner, might not the Dem have good prospects against Rudy in some other Southern states as well? That could partially offset Rudy's strength in New York.
(And, nopardons, I'm not a troll. I'll admit to a long-standing dislike of Giuliani. I'm biased against him (and against Hillary too, if that mollifies you). My original post was intended to present a specific issue that concerns me about him, not to launch a general attack. When you say I should "go back to DU," I assume you don't think DU is a better place than FR for a serious discussion of a politician's antiterrorism credentials.)
Playing the beleaguered "innocent" is just another damned troll ruse.
Florida go for Clark ( CLARK , who isn't even going to run, that Clark ? ), the Breck girl, Warner, or algore over Rudy? You neither know nor understand the first thing about politics, with that kind of statement.
You posted this thread because you HATE Giuliani; nothing more and nothing less; except to try to influence others and divide this site.
Here's a helpful hint for you........should you keep this up, through most of the primary season, or even earlier, you will NOT be a member of FR, come the presidential election.
You really nailed quite a lot, in your brief reply. Well done!
Thanks nopardons and if your a fan of the movie Slap Shot...."Itried to catch th espirit of the thing" ...lol
And Wayne Barret has no political agenda???
Never saw the movie; never even heard of it, but I think that I get the gist of the quote. You did very well and I'm quite impressed by you; NOT and easy thing to do.
Thats funny .. a Gafe prone representative from Massacusetts riding on his family name?????? Hmmmmmm, I am thinking hard here.......Is there a K? Yes there is one K! Is there an N? Yes , there are two of those. Is there a D? Yes there is one D. I'd like to but a vowel Pat! I'd like to by an E! There are two E's!!!! (audience roars) Pat I'll solve the puzzle....spoiled brat, gafe's often, exults himself in the memory of his dead brothers...and... had the sole of his shoe imprinted on Mary Joe Kopecny's forehead which he used for leverage to get out of the car... I am going to say ......Kennedy!!!! Correct and you have won a lifetime political career in the state of Massive two sheets, Congratulations Teddy, ah Vanna don't get to close I think he's liquored up!! LOL
What planet did that come from? Of course I know what DU is. I never suggested otherwise.
I'll make one last effort to try to put this in context for you. The media depict Giuliani as a hero of 9/11. In the USA, 2006, however, media images are often more spin than substance. The MSM are superficial to the nth degree. (I've been here long enough to know "MSM" as a derogatory term.) I raised the question whether this specific image -- Giuliani's reputation concerning terrorism -- is justified, or whether he's overrated.
In response, several people have explained their reasons for thinking that Giuliani does indeed deserve his media kudos for 9/11. I'm not convinced, but I appreciate their willingness to engage in a serious discussion of the pros and cons of a prominent politician's record with regard to terrorism. That seems well within FR's mission.
If you, on the other hand, feel that you best contribute to FR by insulting me and threatening me with a zot, well, that's your choice. Neither of us is likely to get very far in persuading the other.
That's the problem when threads get this long. Earlier comments get forgotten or buried.
In post #7 I wrote that Barrett "has been an ardent Giuliani foe for years." So, yeah, of course he has an agenda.
Would his agenda lead him to outright fabricate quotes from people like Kelly and Anemone? They're still alive and available to refute him. Even if Barrett himself would willingly lie, his publisher would check the quotes so as not to get sued.
Of course, some of those knowledgeable sources might have also said some things along the lines of "But, on the other hand...." -- quotes that Barrett didn't use because they favored Giuliani. So maybe some Giuliani supporters who are more familiar with the 9/11 Commission report than I am can cite such statements and put these criticisms of Rudy into context.
Right now, the MSM isn't burnishing Rudy's image at all. If anything, they are trying to tear him down; just as you are doing.
And FWIW, I think that you are a "ringer" and you have yet to say anything whatsoever, to dissuade me from that position.
I and others ( mostly others, because I was late to the thread and saw no need to regurgitate the same facts ) posted things about Rudy, which you have ignored, dismissed out of hand, and/or didn't/couldn't refute.
Just to make things interesting..........WHO would YOU like to see as the '08 GOP presidential candidate?
Awwww, I didn't know you cared.
I was telling you, from experience, that when people, such as you, continue posting the kinds of things you have, well into an election season, they get ZOTTED.
What "kinds of things"? Anything negative about any prominent Republican? If everyone who's dissed McCain gets zotted, the Zotatron is gonna blow a fuse. So, what's the deal -- McCain is a free-fire zone (not that he doesn't deserve it) but everyone else gets a pass? Is it permitted to bash Specter and Chaffee as well? For that matter, do people get zotted if they criticize the likes of Pence or Tancredo over something or other?
There seems to be this attitude that, if I criticize a specific aspect of Rudy Giuliani's record, it must mean that Hillary's about to come over to my place so we can burn some American flags while we watch al-Jazeera together.
Just to make things interesting..........WHO would YOU like to see as the '08 GOP presidential candidate?
If I say I want to take the Fifth on that question, will you decide I must be a Commie and tell me to go back to DU?
My serious answer is, "I don't know yet." I think Giuliani's overrated as a leader. However, there's no one in the field who, in my opinion, clearly stands out.
The process of sorting these candidates out will take at least the next year and a half. By the spring of '08, it might seem crazy that Giuliani was ever considered a serious contender -- or it might seem crazy that anyone else was ever considered a serious contender. An example: At this time in 2002, I don't think Howard Dean was on anyone's radar as a prime prospect to win the Democratic nomination. In late 2003, the media geniuses were all certain that his nomination was inevitable. A few months later, he dropped out of the race.
..........WHO would YOU like to see as the '08 GOP presidential candidate?
Spot on Ranger!
BINGO! The money winner!
Long, long ago, when FR was brand new, most people, who weren't the original few, either didn't join right away, or if they did, didn't post for months. They read and read and read and absorbed how FR worked, who was who, what the rules, slang, and inside jokes were. By the time they DID finally post, they more or less had a handle on things. You've been here for about four months and while you sound like a retread, unless you're playing games, you still have no idea how FR works.
What I was driving at, which you took umbrage with, is that too strident, biased posters, who become quite rabid, during primary/election seasons DO get ZOTTED here. That's part of FR' history.
If you'd stop playing games and just write, as you finally did, about not knowing yet, etc., you'd be on far firmer ground. Can the smarmy, snarky, "I'm better than you" stuff, and you won't get beat up.
I don't know WHO it's going to be, but I DO know that it'll NEVER be McQueeg!
