The major difference between the Yankees and the rest of baseball is that they can take a flier on a Carl Pavano, Raul Mondesi, John Leiber, Jose Contreras, Hideki Irabu, etc. etc. etc. for outrageous money and if they don't play a lick for them they still have money to sign the Randy Johnsons', A-Rods', and Damons' without hesitation. Is it an advantage? Yes. Do they overspend and drive up costs around baseball? Yes. Get a Yankee fan to admit this? Not a chance.
