It is similar in a way, but I wouldn't call it stealing.
I read in the WSJ a few months ago about how some Muslims in the food industry wanted to standardize halaal. They were influenced by how their Jewish counterparts handled kosher sixty years ago. Not wanting to be forever half a century behind, they modeled their plans after the success of the Jews.
I remember laughing at a response:
Interviewer: Did you take a page out of the Jewish book?
Answer: We borrowed the whole book.
