Our son did. We haven't but my major reason is Internet access. We don't use our phones much (our wireless minutes are 400 and we don't come anywhere near that). But for Internet, what do you use, Vonage or something?
Saving up????? Well, yeah, I guess if Starbucks and McDonald's paid a living wage, you could afford luxuries like books.....
Comcast cable. Once you use a cable internet connection there is NO going back. I still can't figure out how I tolerated my dialup connection for so long.

If you have a cable modem (Comcast or whoever) and a cell phone, you don't need a phone line for anything.

When we went from dial up to DSL last year we went Verizon because their plan was no more expensive than our dial up. At the time, Comcast didn't have Internet in our area. Now they do. Plus, their plan is still more expensive than Verison's DSL, but dropping a land line, it's something to consider when our Verizon contract comes up in a few months. The difference will mostly be the difference in cost between our current 400 minutes a month and 'unlimited' calling. At present we don't even come close to using up those 400 minutes.
By the way, the scammers are protesting against the possibility that they're being scammed now.
A lot of "projection" on this thread; I don't understand why there's so many unemployed DUmmies, when there's always a market for good movie-theatre projectionists.
Nobody, but nobody, projects better than the DUmmies.
And I assume many of these projecting jobs are union-wage, union-benefited, too.

If I didn't live in Cell Phone Purgatory, I'd dump my home phone as well. For some reason I live in a Black Hole of Limited or No Coverage.
