Einstein and Tolkein were both horrific speakers. However, those two remain respectively the greatest physicist and author in the last century.

Tolkein? Don't think so. Ohterwise an excellent article.

Washington became the father of this country because of his vision, his faith, his moral character and courage, and his steadfast determination, which was second to none.

Ok, but Robert E. Lee did not become the father of a new southern nation in spite of his vision, his faith, his moral character and courage, and his steadfast determination, which was second to none.

It is simply this. You win, you are great, you lose, you are a has been.

There are millions of people have vision, faith, moral character and courage, and steadfast determination, which are second to none. And if they lose, they are LOSERS. And if they win, they are WINNERS.

Bob dole was a loser, clinton a winner. Dole was by far the better man.

Lee Corso was universally acclaimed to be the perfect football coach at Indiana as far as being a role model, having a clean program, being an excellent educator, etc.

He got canned for losing too much.

While it's true that Washington had problems with some of the other generals (Gates, Conway) I think that Washington had many admirers in the Continental Congress because, essentially, he was one of them.

Also, he was smart enough to realize that he didn't need to win; all he needed to do was not lose. OTOH, the British had to win. If they lost a major field force, as happened at Yorktown, they were essentially finished. Washington simply waited for the opportunity to present itself.
