Bumping for reading later. I didn't have the time to read the entire article, jsut skimmed, but I'm kinda jealous. My brother lives 6 months of the year on an island in Canada with no electricity or other utilities. It's very remote and a nice peacful place.

My wife's family has a small farm about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh and I really enjoy spending time there away from everything. I don't watch much TV, often use kero lights - learned that from my brother - split firewood for our fireplace, garden, watch the animals and stuff like that.

It actually keeps you very busy but it's satisfying and realzing at the same time. Hope as I get older wife and I can find a place in the country.
