What would you do about the hundreds of thousands of families whose lives would be devastated?

What do you do with the hundreds of thousands of families that are devastated when felons go to jail? Do we let all the convicts out of jail because it would disrupt their families? No of course not. So why do illegal immigrants that have broken our laws expect different treatment? If I practice tax fraud and SS fraud I would not be able to pay a very small fine and still be able to collect my benefits based on that crime. It comes down to are we a nation of laws or a nation of special interests?
