In the battle to protect the United States from the invasion of illegal immigrants the Federal Government is presumed to be on the side of law abiding American citizens, not the side of illegal alien intruders.
Contrary to the presumption, however, there is a growing body of evidence that through hypocrisy, gross inefficiency, or culpable design, the U. S. Government is acquiescing in, if not actively encouraging, the illegal alien invasion.
You ask, how can this be true?
Look at the undisputed facts.
1. U. S. immigration law makes it a crime for an employer to knowingly hire illegal alien workers. The 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, which granted amnesty to some 3 million illegal immigrants, required job applicants to provide identification to employers proving the applicant’s eligibility to work in the United States. What the law did not require was that the employer verify the identification presented.
This led to a great blossoming of false identification mills which now provide to illegals counterfeit green cards, fake Social Security cards, and counterfeit California identification cards. The illegal presents these forged documents to the prospective employer; the employer accepts the ID at face value; the illegal is hired; and, because the employer must have “knowingly” hired the illegal, the counterfeit documentation gets the employer off the hook when he is apprehended. As Leslie Berestein, staff writer for the San Diego Union-Tribune, wrote recently, counterfeit documents provide “an easy in to the job market” for illegal workers, and “an easy out for most employers caught hiring them.”
In her article, Ms. Berestein documented the case of a southern California fence company that had 157 workers, almost one third of its labor force, who were in the country illegally. With regard to counterfeit documents, she wrote:
“Not all fakes are perfect. Some phony documents seized recently from local employers look authentic enough at first glance, but upon closer inspection contain obvious errors.
“The back of one Social Security card seized last April from Naval Coatings, Inc., a San Diego military contractor, contains multiple spelling mistakes….
“The person holding the error-filled card was hired. More than half the company’s 167-person work force was found to be working illegally….
“In the past three years, more than 350 employees have been found working illegally for local companies, but none of the firms has been prosecuted.”
If that isn’t a clue as to the conscious disregard of the law by Federal officials, what clue is needed? DNA evidence?
None of this excuses the employers, of course. There is an existing Federal database, available to employers on a voluntary basis, through which identification documents presented by prospective employees can be verified. But the system, known as Basic Pilot, gets little use. In California, less than 2,000 employers have signed up for the service. This number represents only one half of 1 percent of the companies in the State employing five or more people.
Most businesses hiring Illegals believe it is safer not to check, and when caught claim they didn’t know, rather than to verify the ID information when it is presented.
2. In February, 2006, Richard Maxwell quit his job as director of the Office of Security at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (CIS), warning that vital information about immigrants is “walled off” from CIS employees who decide whether or not to grant immigration benefits.
Writing about the Maxwell story under the headline, “Immigration Officers Barred from Key Data,” Jerry Kammer of Copley News Service reported:
“Many immigration officers handling requests for green cards, citizenship and other immigration benefits do not have access to key law enforcement and national security databases….
“The officers’ access to the databases, which would allow them to check whether an applicant had a criminal record or was on the terrorism watch list, was cut off because the government has failed to complete required background checks on the immigration adjudicators.” (Emphasis added)
How is that for priorities? The Government is more afraid of its own CIS employees than it is of terrorists and other criminals among immigrants. How secure should that make one feel?
3. If anything further is needed to illustrate the Government’s hypocrisy in dealing with illegal aliens, examine this story by Liz Chandler of Knight-Ridder News Service, published on April 23, 2006, under the title, “2 Agencies Withhold Key Data on Workers: Records Could Help Find Illegal Immigrants.” Ms. Chandler writes:
“The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) and the Social Security Administration routinely collect strong evidence of potential workplace crimes, including names and addresses of millions of people who are using bogus Social Security numbers, their wage records and the identities of the bosses who knowingly hire them.
“But they keep those facts secret….
“The two agencies don’t analyze their data to root out likely immigration fraud—and they won’t share their millions of records so that law enforcement agencies can do that, either….
“The IRS doesn’t fine even the most egregious employers who reportedly submit inaccurate data about their workers. The Social Security Administration does virtually nothing to alert citizens whose Social Security numbers are being used by others….
“One internal study found that a restaurant company had submitted 4,100 duplicate Social Security numbers for workers. Other firms submit inaccurate names or numbers reports for nearly all of their employees. One child’s Social Security number was used 742 times by workers in 42 states….
“In Utah, after Social Security provided data for one criminal probe, investigators discovered that Social Security numbers of 2,000 children were being used by other people.”
But will these Federal agencies—the IRS and the Social Security Administration—step up to help enforce Federal laws to stop illegal immigration? No, and so the invasion by illegal aliens continues unabated.
Can all of this accumulated evidence merely be blamed on the inefficiency of a bloated Federal bureaucracy in which the left hand knows not what the right hand is doing? Some can, of course, but not all. There is more to this case than the fact that most bureaucrats are as dumb and uncoordinated as a box of rocks.
The big businesses which want a steady supply of cheap labor don’t want any curbs on immigration—legal or illegal—and they don’t want sanctions enforced against employers who hire Illegals. Politicians of both major parties know where the campaign funds come from, and react accordingly.
President George W. Bush, who doesn’t go to the bathroom without a note from a multinational corporation, sets the tone for the entire attitude of the Federal Government. His support of amnesty for Illegals, guest worker programs, and lax enforcement of the immigration laws permeates the top levels of his entire Administration.
The bottom line is: at this time, The Federal Administration is not on the side of the American people in their battle to protect America’s borders and stop the invasion of illegal aliens. The political leaders of the dominant parties, starting with the President, have been compromised to a point where their attitudes are, at the least, hypocritical on immigration issues, and in many cases worse. The bureaucracy sits like a sullen ground sloth, not moving because the heads of government won’t move it to action with the electric stick; and on the few occasions when the Government appears to be acting to stop Illegals—such as raids on employers—the events are principally for show, not definitive results.
Congress currently has before it a variety of immigration bills. The people need to keep the heat on Members of Congress not to go along with the Bush Administration’s proposed sell out to amnesty and guest worker programs for illegal aliens.
Remember, it is cheaper to deport than to support!

Whose side? Definitely not on the taxpayers side. The govt governs for the people and by the people not aid and abet Mexico's criminals and cater to every whim of Vincente Fox.

Frist, our majority leader voted for this illegal alien benefit package, at the behest of the head of our party and President, George Bush. I think they've lost their minds.

The more news that comes out about where this administration stands on a lot of things, the more and more I am considering not voting at all for any politician, just issues, because it's becoming very obvious that the 2 parties are actually one, they just call themselves different names so that they can be re-elected. I've been praying hard that God would turn this nation around back to righteousness, common sense, and our Christian roots. I also insert the phrase "if it's not too late". For God Almighty knows the hearts of everyone, and may already know that America is beyond redemption because too many people here are either anti-Christian bigots or totally apathetic, ignorant, and/or complacent about what's happening to our culture, society, and laws, and therefore, the nation as a whole will not repent. But that is not going to stop me from continuing to pray for America, because there still may be hope to save her.
It should be mandatory for these companies to sign up and use the servcie in screening all new employees. Heck make that ALL existing and new employees.

Thanks for posting this. Even without the documentation, you get the hunch that this has to be true. How could there be such flagrant immigration/employment law violations on such a vast scale unless the government decided to go along with it or, at best, to look the other way?
If this becomes law (and I'm afraid it will because when Bush and Rove start pressuring individual members of the House, people will quickly arrive at a "bi-partisan compromise"), I'll never ever vote Republican in my entire life.
If this becomes law, I'll vote Constitution Party (or other conservative third-party) as long as I live.
Republicans control the WH, Senate and House and they went against anything I stand for. No more exuses.

President Bush has no qualms about rounding up tens of thousands of terrorists and suspected terrorists worldwide, and spending vast sums of money to keep them interned in Cuba, Saddam Hussein's former prisons, and the like. It seems that, where pursuing a shadowy coalition of international terrorists, most of whom reside in the Middle East and carry out most of their atrocities on foreign soil, no measure is too extreme or impractical, and public and international opinion be hanged. But to round up and deport (not imprison, torture, interrogate, or execute, mind you), an illegal populace living on American soil, many of whom are openly seditious or involved in various criminal enterprises such as drug trafficking, well, suddenly the President becomes all touchy-feely. It's pretty clear where his priorities lie, and they aren't with the American people.
