It does seem at times that having nukes is some sort of effective buffer policy. Think about it ....when nations like North Korea (and even Pakistan, although it is our 'ally) have nukes nothing seems to happen to them. Nations like Iraq try to get their mits on nukes (but don't yet have them completed and operational ) and their leaders get fished out of spider-holes like the stupid murderous sots they are! It is to be seen what happens to Iran .....if they get nuclear weapons, and we do nothing, then it will just add credence to this and prompt more rogue states (someone say Syria) to try and get nukes of their own.

My neighbor is from Iran, came here at the fall of the Shah.
He says that Iran should get nukes. States that they have never invaded a neighboring country and just needs them for protection from all the troublemakers in the region. And for national pride.
I think we should take out the whole program.
