Please spare me that the good Cardinal can't speak out of the Bishops. This is a issue or morality.

Oh and by the way
From the US Vatican ambassador to the Vatican
"In a topic with relevance for American politics, Rooney said he and Pope Benedict discussed immigration policies during their first meeting last November. Benedict, Rooney said, expressed the hope that the United States would continue to welcome immigrants, drawing on what the pope called the country’s “great tradition of assimilation.”

Rooney also said he met Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles during the consistory for the creation of new cardinals in Rome in March, and encouraged him to continue to speak out on immigration issues."

So, our Ambassador encourages him and I guess the Church by implication to continue to speak out. I think the Catholic Church is on safe ground here. Hey the United States Govt is encouraging it.

I don't care about Vatican politics (they've also denounced the war in Iraq), and I'm referring to what Mahony is factually now SAYING and DOING.

But you've failed to address the main issue of whether you and I should be forced to subsidize activity that gives them tax-exempt status for illegal activity.
