You're inferences about the Ukraine keeping the Soviet Union afloat until Pres. Reagan defeated them is incorrect. The Soviet Union WAS IMPORTING FOODSTUFFS TO INCLUDE WHEAT, read again WHEAT, that should have been plentiful in Ukraine and Southern Russia, BUT, because of Soviet policies the crop totals were low and when they did have a harvest a lot of the crops spoiled because the unbuilt and unkempt infrastructure prevented the produce and crops from getting to market.
Bottom line - Ukraine's farmlands, because of Soviet policy (that a lot of Ukrainians had a hand in making) were useless and weren't keeping the "Soviet economy" afloat.
Why do you even call yourself an American if you can only cheerlead for Ukrainian nationalism, even if it means rooting for people who opposed the US? If your Ukraine is so amazing why don't you go live there? I'm sure the Ukrainian nationalists will allow you to join them in Lvov, oops, I mean, Lviv.

Ukraine is not going anywhere with the west? - Just yesterday I read something like this in the news: http://www.podrobnosti.ua/economy/2006/05/16/313068.html (in Russian) - since 2003 trade between EU and Ukraine increased by 60%. This makes EU the largest trade partner.
Out of the total 193 members, 123 were Russian, or 64%, while Russian share of the USSR population hovers around 50%. There were 17 Ukrainian politburo members, or 9% while the share of Ukrainians is around 15% of the USSR population.
It was even worse in the early years- in the period 1920 to 1950, out of the 100 members ONLY 6 were Ukrainian. (65 Russians)

Interesting statistics, nonetheless, especially as they go far to prove my point that all ethnicities were involved in the Communist crimes. That there were small numbers of Polish members in the RUSSIAN communist party is not suprising.
