Well if they're paying their counterfeit taxes, no problem. (Sarc)

If Putnam County has this many fugitives that are most likely illegal aliens, can you imagine the numbers in other parts of the nation that have a higher concentration of Hispanic immigrants?Si.

One of the things we in law enforcement have known for years and the public is just starting to discover as they become aware of whats going on, (federal law enforcement) will do nothing. These people are violating federal law just by being here. Some of them come on visas, but when it expires theres no follow up.
A substantial number of our outstanding arrest warrants are for Hispanics who have been arrested for a myriad of violations and they either never appeared in court or absconded from probation.
Worth saying again. Both parties are responsible for this, and it has been coming for at least 10-15 years.

And I'm sure they sent that stolen money to their poor, starving families down in Mexico too!

Sills noted that his office recently arrested a man for DUI and through fingerprinting discovered they had arrested the same individual four other times with four different fictitious names and the sheriffs office was holding four outstanding warrants for him. Two were bench warrants and two were probation warrants all in different names.

Sills said more than 100 checks counterfeited from a Horton Homes payroll check were cashed. How many people were cashing these checks? That seems like a lot of checks to cash in a short amount of time by a limited number of people, and without raising suspicions.

Direct deposit or a stored value card would stop this pretty quick.

They are not counterfeit checks! They are just "undocumented withdrawals".

Much to my surprise, I got back several responses, Sills said. This phenomenon is widespread across the nation. Groups of Hispanics have been doing this off and on around the country for a couple of years. Within the last six months there seems to be a spike in this type of activity.

While it seems obvious to me that Horton is using illegals, the story says the guy they arrested had a green card (counterfeited, but a green card nonetheless). Besides, it's no loss to Horton, the bank will eat the $100,000.

The bank had recently started requiring a finger print for anyone cashing a check who does not have an account (maybe a year ago), and the sheriff has numerous good quality fingerprints on the counterfeit checks.
He told me the other day that the fingerprints likely will not do any good because what's he going to do, call the sheriff's office if Juarez Mexico and ask them to run a background check ...
The illegals travel our country constantly changing their identity and using bogus green cards and identification, and they can't be policed effectively.
However, as of this week, the bank (where I happen to bank) has required anyone without an account cashing a check to pay 10 or 15 or 20 percent check cashing fee (I was told but now can't remember how much the percentage was).

This is a fairly rural community. It would surprise me very much if something like that happened. Besides, the bank isn't saying that only Hispanics without an account have to pay a fee ... it's anyone without an account.
