Reason for Optimism

Got a moment of inspiration, decided to start posting here when I heard that some conservatives were feeling despondent over the whole immigration thing. This is my first post. For those who are worried about Bush/ Immigration, just remember some American patterns of history.

A typical pattern is this:

1. Ignore a crisis facing the country 2. Continue to ignore a crisis facing the country 3. Pretend to do something about it (but then don't). 4. Get attacked "by surprise," even though there's no reason at all why it should have been a surprise.

Think of Japan in the 1930s. Japan was modernizing their military, building a navy and air force that was quickly out- classing the U.S. They had an expansionist mind- set with one goal: total conquest of Asia.

What did the United States do?

We made it easier for them. We sold them scrap iron and oil with which to build their state- of the art military machine. We kept doing this until it was plain what the Japanese were up to; burning asian villages, raping children, using humans for bayonet practice, etc.

And then, we decided to stop selling them scrap iron and oil. This made them visibly upset, and they said so. At that point, the U.S. was warned by people in the navy that the Japanese might try and attack Pearl Harbor.

Washington ignored the warning.

On December 07, 1941, the Japanese destroyed the U.S. pacific fleet.

Finally, we got the message, and proceeded to kick their butts all across the Pacific; we won the war.

What's the lesson? Something really bad has to happen before America decides to deal with a problem. But America always does, and I'm confident that this will be no exception.

The illegal immigration thing has reached a crisis point, much like Pearl Harbor and the years preceeding 9/11. I see Washington waking up soon... JMO.

Welcome to FR and thanks for the post. I'm afraid I don't share your optimism because we're now confronted not with an external but a much more insidious internal invasion -- and one which will be irreversible by the time enough people wake up to the catastrophe. Also, during WWII all parties and the people were united by the deadly life or death threat of total war. Today, by contrast, we find ourselves confronted by political parties and leaders pandering to 3 million illegal invaders per year to see who can get their votes and cheap labor. It doesn't matter to them that school districts are facing bankruptcy; that hospitals are forced to curtail emergency public services; that illegal felons in our prisons are costing $3 million per DAY; that the cost for welfare and social services is costing tax payers millions also; that the crime and violence that cross the border with the international drug cartel are costing us billions in law enforcement and social disaster; and, even harder to believe nearly six years after 9/11 we are open to a terrorist attack that could stroll across and kill thousands (or millions?) of Americans. Despite all the bogus claims of the "no borders" lobby that immigrants contribute to our economy many objective studies by serious people have proved this not to be true. In fact, they cost us more they contribute. Much of the billions they earn primes the Mexican economy, NOT ours, since most of it is returned. Even more harmful is the fact that they suppress wages for American workers to the tune of billions. It isn't that they perform jobs Americans won't do -- Americans won't do them for substandard wages and no benefits. And that's what American business interests love! The real tragedy is that we have very few political representatives who are willing to put the welfare of the nation ahead of their desire to compete for free votes and cheap labor. By the time enough people wake up we'll be speaking Spanish -- oh well, just about everything we read and hear already is! (more millions).

I could not agree more. This is a cancer rotting from within. Not only the invasion by the illegals, but the visas given to foreign workers for American jobs, and the outsourcing of American jobs overseas. Result: No more middle class. The elite super rich, and the slaves at the bottom just like Mexico!
