system builders can sell whatever they want, but as far as the piracy element goes I can actually understand where microsoft is coming from. Anyone who can install Linux or whatnot can build a system from components as well.

With Windows XP, doesn't it have to be registered or it will shut down.

BTW, last week I bought a fairly slow 750mhz machine with a windows xp sticker on it foe $10. I bought it for the license but much to my surprise it booted fine and also had office 2000 installed...
