I hope that the coverage and support Tancredo is getting, lights a fire under some politicians.

>While I won't knock Tancredo, George Allen looks pretty good to me early on.

Allen lost my vote when he failed to take a stand on immigration. Methinks he is just another opportunist.

Tom "The Tank" Tancredo is the new darling of the GOP base, hope he can continue to build on the momentum and not fizzle out like Howard Dean did.

When you consider what the actual powers of the Presidency are, his accomplishments match up well against them in terms of what we want out of him. While he had to be somewhat socially liberal to be a credible candidate in NYC, what he actually accomplished moved nothing at all to the left... everything he did moved the government of NYC to the right. Compare that to our current President who, while socially conservative (allegedly, anyway), has moved the government even further to the left than it already was, and by quite a bit.

Rudy might not be a bad bet for a committed conservative. He may well be our Trojan horse - conservative in reality, no matter what the rhetoric may be.

Remember, the abortion battle is already won on the federal level (there is cleanup to do, but the momentum is all ours). Abortion needs to be fought on the state level from here on in and the President doesn't play that role. Likewise for the few other issues on which he is socially liberal.

He may be the right guy to take on Islam and pull the country in the right direction, which is our #1 national priority. He is also a big law-and-order guy, which gives me reason to believe he will be correct on immigration. He took on the race baiters and the unions and won. He took on the criminal class and won. He turned NYC from one of the most dangerous cities in the USA to one of the safest. As a prosecutor, he took on the mob and won. And he was the first to rally not only the city but the nation after 9/11.

If Rudy is nominated as the GOP candidate he will not be beaten. He is the closest thing we have to Reagan in this generation, IMHO, and would create a new generation of "Giuliani Democrats" to lock out the Dems for many years to come.

Worth a shot, I say. Better than what the GOP has come up with so far... McCain? Puh-leeez. Allen is good but he doesn't have the skills to win on the national stage, he's not polished enough or quick enough under fire. And who else do we have except for the same 'ol party hacks in the mold of Bob Dole? Nobody that I see, except Tancredo or Pence, both of whom I expect not to run.

You're comparing a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, RINO mayor from New York City with Reagan?

Rudy huh?

I'll vote for a pro abort, pro gay agenda gun grabber when they have to go sprinkle rock salt where HELL FROZE OVER.

I'm looking at what he's actually done, and yes, I am. What Rudy has actually done - rhetoric aside - is profoundly conservative in a way that no Republican since Reagan can claim to match. Whether he is rhetorically pro-abort, pro-homosexual, anti-gun is moot in light of the fact that he's never actually done anything to advance the agenda of those factions. This is often forgotten, but Reagan was once a union Democrat.

Here's a simple challenge: name one person since Reagan who has as much actual real-world *conservative* accomplishment to his name as does Giuliani.

The Pence fans are going to have to get behind Tancredo for the good of the nation. Pence had the chance to step to the plate, and Tancredo did.

I was just tweaking all the "Pence for President" people running around here. At this point it is really to soon to tell who will be the next nominee. Tancredo does have a hot issue right now. But one issue doesn't necessarily make you the front runner or a contender for the nomination. All I hope for is in the end we get our stuff together and don't nominate McCain or some other RINO.
