Not sure about anyone else, but "speak truth to power" is the most cringe-inducing of phrases, to me. It just makes me wince and look away. I'm not sure why, exactly.

Because it's one of those stupid, trite phrases used by college-age pseudo-intellectuals who somehow think that in their 21 years of life they have figured out how to solve ten thousand years of intractible human strife and create utopia (if only The Man would listen!).

It's right up their with "Power to the People!"

One reason, I think, that these phrases are so awful is because the mindset seems to be that if they just find the right way to package their stupid ideas, they stop being stupid.
