Ping!
As I understand it, Clinton got the Democrats elected by taking the party to the centre. According to Geoffrey Archer, Tony Blair did the same thing with Labour. No wonder the left are unhappy.
My favourite Bill Clinton quote:
"When I was in England, I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and I didn't like it. I didn't inhale, and never tried it again."
-- Bill Clinton, during his 1992 Presidential campaign
In the US political terminology, this is called triangulation.
Sounds like a sporting event. Have you seen the latest medal count?
I didn't watch the news. What's the count at the Games today?
New Zealand did very well in the triathlon (I don't know if that is the right spelling). They didn't win the gold but they did win silver and bronze in the womens' and took the silver in the mens'. No need to mention who won the gold. Before events started this morning Australia had won 12 gold and India was second with 4. However, I haven't spotted much of the maple syrup.
Despite having 8 times the population of New Zealand, Canada only manages to get the same number of gold medals so far. Once again, the Great White North is being eaten alive by other countries.
No wonder why a cursory glance at the threads by Canadian FRers reveal why they are in such a foul mood LOL.
I saw that and had a good laugh. It seems there are a few new FReepers making comments not designed to improve US/Australian relations. I have responded to several. I don't think Aussies, and the Aussie media in particular, would be too impressed. And I am not referring to the drug squad.
A lor of FR posters are just "talk before they think" types of people. I wouldn't take their jests seriously, and I don't think you should too. It's too bad because roughly speaking we are on the same boat of politics as them and their kneejerk remarks hurt our side of things.
Intelligent replies are in the minority, but you can spot them when they appear.
You are correct there. The impact at the grass roots level is very important as without grass roots support people such as John Howard do not survive. It even leads to situations were the hard left controls the balance of power through the Senate. In Australia that means the Greens. I am sure some of these comments have come from people who have no idea where Australia is or what its relations with the US are. In this part of the world being tactful with neighbouring countries is so important.
I found this report from the games very amusing:
Australian gymnasts win second gold medal
5:16 PM March 18
Australia continued its medal haul today when gymnasts Joshua Jefferis and Philippe Rizzo scored gold and bronze in the men's all-around final.
Canada's Nathan Gafuik thought he had secured the gold with a score of 88.35 but Jefferis' performance on his final apparatus was too strong, giving him an overall score of 89.45 and the gold medal.
911 stations in Toronto are suddenly receiving a rush of ambulance calls.
Ping! foreign Anti-American Left damning Clinton when Bubba was in the White House - something which American liberals would now rather want you to forget.
Thanks for the ping. I'll read it now.
I understand your view on Canada and it's all in good humor.
But, I've seen FR posters take the same tack with Canada, branding them all as a pile of leftist stinkos. When we do have good friends in Canada as we do with you.
This is a conservative board without international boundaries. But, there are some narrow, uninformed thinkers.
I was very pleased to see the Conservatives get up in Canada.
"Australians celebrate first ever gold in Commonwealth Games"
Yes this is a real headline and it relates to yesterday's events at the Commonwealth Games. Guess where from?
