Oops, Bush Didn’t Lie; Sorry About That
From Sea to Shining Sea ^ | 3/05/06 | Purple Mountains

Today’s Herald-Tribune, southwest Florida’s leading newspaper, published a letter to the editor demanding the impeachment of President Bush “because he lied about knowing the levies would be breached”. Perhaps this is a rant of another leftist kook who has given up on ‘Bush lied’ about WMD, but more likely it was the direct result of the lie that the Associated Press told earlier this week that, in fact, the President WAS told that the levies would be breached.

It is little consolation that, under fire from hundreds of bloggers, AP has issued a retraction of its original story.

All retractions should be front-page above-the-fold bold font.

Until that happens, it ain't a retraction.

This is what the liberal rag in my area puts in their American hating paper:

Editor,
What does it take to learn from our mistakes? Apparently we haven’t learned anything in the recent past. What do we have to look for in the future? This country had in the past and I use the past tense, because we know longer deserve the respect of many nations that we once enjoyed. Stop and ponder for a few moments exactly everything that has transpired since this nation began, with the revolution back in 1776. People coming to this nation wanted to escape tyranny and suppression that they were subjected to in the Old World.
Democracy, isn’t it glorious? Yes it works here but is it for everyone in the world? Are all of the people on this globe willing to just change because we want them to? Do we have the right to impose our beliefs on all people because we say so?
There have been bullies in this world since the beginning of time: and yes as far as I am concerned we are now the biggest bully of all time. Ask yourself what has happened to all of the bullies since the beginning of the world?
Bear with me, let’s take a look into the past and then you choose! Where were we in 1776? Where are we presently and where do you think we will be in the future?
Currently I personally do not have any hope for the future of this country unless we are willing to change.
Looking back in time, originally Sumerian society seems to have had some representative, even a democratic basis. Then between 2400 and 2350 BC Sargon I, a king of the Semetic city of AKKAD conquered the Sumerian cities and inaugurated an Akkadian supremacy. He sent his troops as far as Egypt and Ethiopia. This society lasted about 200 years.
Them peoples called Gutians over through the Sumerian people and ruled for the next 200 years 200 BC. There center was UR.
Next peoples to look at are the subjects of Mesopotamia. There King was Hammurabi his people ruled from 1792 until 1600 BC when the Hittites destroyed Babylon and Mesopotamia.
You may wonder why I have taken a look at any of the people of the previous generations. Is there a method to my madness?
Well keep in mind that I am looking at bullies of the world. The Egyptians enjoyed a period of success along with another branch of Indo-European race established it’s self in Iran. This pattern repeats its self as a shifting pattern of Empires and Kingdom stretching across centuries.
How many others have attempted to overrun there neighboring countries throughout the Millinan. Germany and Japan in the nineteen century, and most recently Iraq, the point being that not since the beginning of time has anyone been successful in imposing there beliefs or Religions on the rest of the world.
History always repeats it’s self and in my opinion it will tell the end of time. Which tells me one thing the bullies of the world have never been successful and the only thing that this will accomplish is to create enemies.
The Romans thought they had a lock on the known world and what happened to them?
The Great War and the Second World War was the last time that the United States of America had the respect and influence of most of the Nations of the world.
What has happened to cause our decline after 1945? Have we made the wrong choices? Are we backing the wrong countries and sticking our noses in places that we shouldn’t be? China, at the end of the second world war was one of our biggest advocates, where do we stand with them today?
As the years pass we have managed to create more and more enemies. Today almost one half of the people of the world are against us. And we brought this about because of the decisions we have made in the past and are still making today.
Well I believe that it is time for the good and righteous people of this country to speak out and demand that a lot of changes be made.
This country was founded by Christians and until the latter part of the 20th century and for the last 400 years their beliefs worked very well. If the founding fathers were around today they would pull their hair out looking at what the Supreme Court and the politicians are doing to this country?
We have to demand that the politicians listen to the majority of the people of this country.
There is only one thing that is sickening in my opinion: we don’t need a bridge to no where in Alaska. What we do need is that same money to be spent to strengthen our borders especially at Mexico.
The biggest mistake we have been making is to allow all politicians to make a lifetime career out of remaining in politics for life. This must stop, just like the President cannot run for office after the second term, they should be limited to two terms and no more.
The President shall have the right to a line item veto.
Where is it written in our Constitution that only the rich or the people who can raise a lot of money can become politicians?
Fundraising and political dinners are wrong and should be stopped. They only promote people with self interests to either run for office or get their friends elected to office. And they in turn are then obligated to dance to the fun raisers tune.
The above mentioned problems are only a few of the things that are wrong with this country. Is it too late for us or can we still save this country? Have we created the Taliban and all of the other insurrections who are against this country? This is one man’s opinion, if we hadn’t created all of the enemies who are against this nation we wouldn’t be in the position that we are in today. And I for one am not happy with the direction that we are headed.
These are just a few things that are wrong with us. There are many more items beyond what I talked about that need to be addressed and corrected.

John Goulstone,
Hazleton

My favorite comment was from Bill Sammon on Fox News: What the "AP did amounts to journalistic fraud".
Yeah. In spades. Its part of a continuing pattern of deceit.
