KIEV, February 27 (Itar-Tass) -- The leadership of the Ukrainian office of the prosecutor general will meet on Monday to discuss withdrawing oil and gas production licenses issued in the autumn of 2004 during a standoff between the Orange revolution supporters and their Blue-White opponents.
On Saturday Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov called to stop issuing licenses to insiders and provide for a transparent and fair license issue system.
He called to name the private owners of oil and gas wells, who received the licenses unlawfully.
I can only spit at all those names whether they are of orange or white-blue color. We have to give natural gas to the country and we shall do it. We shall clean the path of those who impede the state from raising gas production 1.5-fold by the end of the year, Yekhanurov said.
Natural Resources Deputy Minister Stepan Lizun said out of 611 licenses, which the office of the prosecutor general has already ordered to cancel, 244 licenses, including 70 for oil and gas deposits, are liable for immediate cancellation. He said the plunder of oil and gas resources began in the autumn of 2004.
Is anyone really surprised?
BTW, does this news ever make the "The World According to jb6"?
- also, did you catch what was Ukraine's 2005 year-end inflation, 10% or 18%? :)
