Seems to me the question is what message was JPII giving the world by kissing the Koran. Seems deeply symbolic but symbolic of what I can't say. Maybe you can?

The Pope kissed PAVEMENT too, upon deplaning, to show respect for the countries he was visiting. It's just a friendly gesture.
Maybe when this dawns on Muslims, that the Pope placed the quran in the same category as asphalt, they will order his posthumous decapitation.
