It is a fascinating psychological study how they go through these emotional cycles. First there's a rising energy and determination which moves from being self-righteous and gung-ho to raving and insane as the "day of destiny" grows nearer. As they realize that they're chances of winning are nil, you get a combination of fury and denial coupled with the insanity; you get the I BELEEEEEVE!!!! threads. Then, after they get slammed to the ground again, there is a brief period of apocolyptic rage ("I'M MOVING TO CANADA!!!!!!!") followed by a slightly longer period of petulant despair with a lot of swearing. Soon, however, they grow gung-ho again and decide to start marching to the next armaggeddon. This appears to be a early attempt to move into that final stage, but first they have to undergo the final drop when Alito is actually confirmed.
