Happy to report just joined w/two P4 2+Ghz machines. Need help though; one machine says it can't connect to secondary assignment server. Will it automatically retry or do I have to do something more?

Linux and Mac folders might be interested in the utilities provided (written?) by Dick Howell. One of Howell's utilities just rescued two Work Units that I thought I had lost. One utility displays an image of the protein being folded, another repairs a damaged queue file, another gives info on points earned, etc.

The utilities can be downloaded from here:

http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude2/rph/fah.html

While Howell was a well-known supporter, developer, and moderator for FAH, he was not officially part of their team, so his software is not officially supported. Howell died recently, and FAH director Vijay Pande posted his regrets at the loss of a "great friend".

I discovered the utilities after running into a FAH bug while running the program on an old RedHat 9 box. The FAH program finished its work units, but would not upload the first two sets of results (wuresults_01.dat and wuresults_02.dat in the "work" directory) to Stanford. Starting the FAH502-Linux.exe program with the "-send all" switch failed, apparently because the results were not recorded properly in the queue file, possibly due to a glibc conbflict. Howell's qfix program rewrote the queue file and "-send all" worked! Five days worth of computing, saved!

In the unlikely event that you run into the same problem, you first have to tell the FAH program to delete the work units' incorrect queue info, e.g.

./FAH502-Linux.exe -delete 3
./FAH502-Linux.exe -delete 2
./FAH502-Linux.exe -delete 1

This does not delete the work unit results. Then run qfix, then

./FAH502-Linux.exe -send all -verbosity 9

This above info IS in the FAH forums, though it is not particularly easy to find.

Since Howell is now deceased, I don't know if his programs will be maintained or updated.

Happy folding.
