Thou Shalt Not Criticize Brokeback Mountain

There's a new Commandment from the left, "Thou Shalt Not Criticize Brokeback Mountain". Of all people to end up in the cross-hairs of the American left, Shalit would not have made the list, but then again the left is amazing at finding new targets and generally liberal people find themselves in the cross-hairs of the PC crowd. I fully expect some type of retraction by Shallit, but he shouldn't have to give one.

If you want to watch the review, click here and scroll about half way down the page to watch it. Shallit didn't pan the movie, didn't say he hated it, but gave it a mixed review.

The big controversy is that he called one of the main characters a "sexual predator" for hunting the other character down to seduce him into sexual trysts. Apparently homosexuals can't be sexual predators. Indeed, if a Cowboy and Cowgirl (cowboys don't herd sheep) a Male Sheepherder and a Female Sheepherder were the characters of the story, and the female hunted down the male and seduced him into sexual affairs, we'd say, "that dirty rotten home wrecker." If the male hunted down the female, we'd say, "This guy is a scary predator." Becuase its a homosexual relationship, its all fair and they're following their hearts.

Shalit's worst offense is daring to suggest the film is overrated. Shalit says:

Brokeback mountain does have a few dramatic peaks, but this may be because its unconventional theme is outside the bun. It is being wildly over-praised. Not by me.

How dare he have a different opinion. A comnmenter on Ace of Spades made an interesting point on this:

I've seen anti-defamation groups get peeved over the content of movies...but the content of a movie review??

How thin-skinned can you get?

I think we're going to find out in coming years exactly how thin skinned they can get in the left's pursuit of uniformity of opinion and political correctness.

Saddam's novels always got rave reviews, too. ;)

Blowback Mountain, or,
Screwjack Mountain, or
Blisterpak Mountain

any others ?

Read a review in the Colorado Springs paper last week on Brokeback Mountain. The reviewer gave it a rave review and implied that those who chose not to see the movie, because of the content, were narrow minded homophobes. I choose not to see movies for many reasons, I'm not particularly interested in seeing two male sheepherders making meaningful glances at one another & pinching one another's butt, this doesn't make me a homophobe. Same philosophy applies when I visit a bookstore, if I'm interested in a title I'll buy it, if not, I won't.

Here's a news flash to this moron. I'm no homophobe. But I have no desire to say a gay movie. And the more liberal idiots like this call anyone who disagrees with them homophobes, the more likely I am to side with the homophobes. Capice?

Related story? The Box-Office Massacre, Part 2 :

If you were a making a movie about this year’s box-office performance, you might call it “The Big Chill 2.” Box-office revenue in the U.S is expected to decline by a little more than 5%, to $8.9 billion, according to Exhibitor Relations, a company that tracks box office receipts.

I hear the soundtrack has a 'modified' version of Tammy Wynette's hit song... “Stand Behind Your Man”.
