Probably not exactly correct, based upon his other comments in Skinner's Wonderland, in which he says he was one of the last victims of polio before the vaccine was developed, and so he would never have been in any of the services. Given that MotorMouth was born in 1950, that seems credible. And he does have that unfortunate streatorphic characteristic of people who unfortunately have to spend much time in wheelchairs.

Couple of things here. I was born in '47 and was a 'Polio Pioneer'. My first grade class (and my sisters 2nd grade class) were part of a blind study. Half were given a placebo injection and the other half got the vaccine. In '54 I was exposed to polio (a playmate contracted it) and my sister and I had to take gammogobulin injections as the vaccine wasn't available yet. I think the vaccine was finally available in '55 or '56 and was an injection but they recommended them for 3 yrs in a row. Eventually the vaccine was available in oral form.

If MoPaul was born in '50 he certainly could have been a VietNam era vet. He would have been 18 in '68. I was drafted in '70 so he could have been in that era. I don't remember him being a polio victim and if he was born in '50 the vaccine was available by the time he was 5-ish, therefore it would have to have been as an infant. I do remember a thead on CU about some other disease which I cannot remember. I will do a search and see if I can find it.

I saw one post that says he has 'post polio syndrome'. It was on CU.
