Thanks!
MONTGOMERY -- Alabama Democratic Party Chairman Redding Pitt, who took considerable criticism for his party's lackluster performance in the 2004 general election, has told party leaders privately that he plans to step down in the near future, Pitt confirmed Tuesday.
"It's time for a change," said Pitt, a Birmingham lawyer and former U.S. attorney. "For next year's election, I think the best strategy would be to have a new chairman." . . .
Many party activists have blasted Pitt, a law school classmate and friend of failed Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry, for spending state party funds on television advertisements for the Massachusetts senator in a state where President Bush is immensely popular. Bush eventually carried the state by a 25-point margin.
Pitt also took heat for campaigning out-of-state for Kerry shortly before the November election, in which Republicans swept Democrats in four statewide court races, leaving just one of 19 appellate court seats in Democratic control. . . .
I saw that date, but I saw more results that said Wee Willie was born in 1973. So he is either 34 or 32.
