My point was a quick-and-dirty take on it...several people keep insisting that I need to expand on that (I will eventually) and publish it, but you are pretty much correct. The peer indoctrination is tied directly to the "talented tenth" notion that those in that "top ten percent" know better than the rest of the great unwashed masses.
Don't sweat it. It's getting better...albeit slowly...
