On Dec. 26, in Prentiss, Officer Ron Jones, 29, called his father, Ronald N. Jones, the police chief, for permission to get a search warrant for an apartment where an informer had told him there was crack.

So he and his father totally ignored the Constitution, and on top of that did shi**y police work in regards to surveilling the place. He got what he deserved.

Agitator

Cory Maye, 23, said he was asleep on a chair in the living room of his Prentiss apartment as his 14-month-old daughter slept in the bedroom when he heard a loud crash at his front door. "I immediately ran to my daughter's room, got a pistol, put in a magazine and chambered a round," said Maye, who is on trial for capital murder in Marion County. "As I laid on the floor by the bed, I heard kicks at the back door. I was frightened, I thought someone was trying to break in on me and my daughter."

Maye testified that it was dark in his apartment when he heard someone breaking into the back door, which was located in the bedroom. "That's when I fired the shots," Maye said. "After I fired the shots, I heard them yell 'police! police!' Once I heard them, I put the weapon down and slid it away. I did not know they were police officers."

The more I dig into this the less I buy Maye's story. Read between the lines. Police anounced themselves at the front door. Maye ran into the bedroom retrieved his gun, loaded it, chambered a round. It then sounds like he may have shot through a closed door and hit the officer. Shooting at an officer on the opposite side of a closed door is not self-defense. He never says he saw them, just heard them. He shot through a closed door.

gross double standard

I just got my computer back after it sat in the repair shop for almost three weeks, so I haven't read this thread.

Southern bashing is all too frequently permitted here.

What tells you whether or not it was a good verdict? Have you reviewed the trial transcript?

one little ol John Grisham fantasy sure goes a long way with these indignant blue state preeners

Now THAT'S reassuring. Right now, I can name two prosecutors who should be "prosecutees". { Earl and Fitzgerald }

Did you miss the part where I said I have family in law enforcement? As for being pro-drug, I keep some Excedrin in the house. On a wild night, I'll have a can of Coors. Libertarian? Hah! When the Republicans run me off, I'll have to check out the Constitution Party.

Crackheads aren't known for behaving rationally.

This accusation is beyond the pale. Nobody's accused the defendant of being a drug user at all. Mojave should be banned for blatant abuse.

What tells you whether or not it was a good verdict?

The jury verdict. The newspaper articles. The prosecutor's statement. The venality of the perp's supporters.

The jury verdict itself is inadmissable as evidence as to whether it is good or not. That is, as you put it, "self serving." Yet more evidence of your own venality.

OH, and the prosecutor statement is also "self serving."

Come back when you get the trial transcript. Then there can BEGIN to be a discussion.

Nobody's accused the defendant of being a drug user at all.

His lawyer even admitted that drugs were found.
