Prior to Arnold even entering the race the recall was polling in the high 50s. After Arnold entered the race the recall numbers remained about the same. For most of the campaign Arnold and Tom were polling around 20-25%. In the closing days of the campaign the voters made a strategic decision to go with Arnold.

It is stupid to say that the recall would have failed without Arnold.

Quoting polls from more than a few days before the election is meaningless. The swing voters that matter make up their mind just before they vote. Because of Arnold, the recall passed despite the Democrat media blitz. Even then, it was fairly close. And let me quote you another poll--13%. That is the fraction that your, and my, man Tom McClintock got of the votes on election day. Wish it weren't so, but those are the facts about the voters in CA.
