Several news items this morning point to the possibility that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who has the unusual achievement of being both the youngest and oldest Defense Secretary ever (the last person in a comparable position was, of course, War Secretary Henry Knox during the first Washington administration), may be retiring soon and possibly being replaced by Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman.
I think this would be a bad idea for the country.
Not because Lieberman would be bad for the position. I think that he would likely be excellent. Rather, I'm concerned that by leaving the Senate he would be surrendering his party totally and completely to the wacko left. Joe Lieberman is the last of the true patriots among the Democrats, a party that once boasted scores of liberals who also believed in supporting their country in time of war.
It's hard to fathom, but in less than two short generations the party of Truman and JFK and LBJ and Henry Jackson and Sam Stratton has degenerated into a party of pinks, punks and perverts.
While I rarely vote for a Democrat, I think it's important that the country have a strong two-party system. That will never happen if the Democrats continue to commit suicide by advocating same for their homeland.
God bless Joe Lieberman and keep him in the Senate where I think he can do more good to save his nation.
I wouldn't mind McCain for Sec of Defense.
The Democratic part is already moving to replace Lieberman themselves. They are seeking an antiwar Democratic candidate to run against him in the primaries.
They are busily purging the last of the reasonable voices in their party and will soon be able to rename the party. The American Socialist Party. It fits.
McCAIN sucks!

Surely you jest. McCain is the one who has pushed through the bill to give terrorist prisoners constitutional rights of US citizens, and is making law based on the UN, and to top it off, it's so ambiguous by including to make "degrading treatment" illegal, that almost anything could be counted as degrading treatement, the only treatment that is not degrading is setting the terrorists free and putting them up in 5 * hotels.
McCain is too unstable for any responsible position.
