Hiram Lewis says Capehart should quit
Capehart should call on Hiram to quit, too
I know I'm the only one who actually reports on a Hiram Lewis press release, but sometimes I can't pass them up.
Hiram sent out another one on Tuesday, this time calling on Rob Capehart to resign as chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party.
Why? Well, because Capehart is considering running for U.S. Senate, and darnit, that's what Hiram wants to do.
Apparently, Capehart is not allowed to even think about it. That alone is reason to resign, according to the Logic that is Hiram.
Now I'm the first to agree that if Capehart actually decides to run for Senate, he should resign immediately, and I'm sure he would.
But there's no harm in admitting you're thinking about it, and no reason to resign until you're done thinking about it and actually decide to do it.
Hiram's press release contained a couple of gems. He uses his own experience as State Party treasurer, claiming, "I recognized this conflict as treasurer and as soon as it was appropriate, I resigned."
The appropriate time, by the way, happened to coincide with Capehart asking Hiram to resign.
In fact, you might recall that Hiram announced long before he was party treasurer that he was probably running for Senate, then he became party treasurer, then he said he might want to be party chairman, then he said, no, I want to run for Senate, and... oh well, I forget after that.
Hiram says he first found out Capehart was interested in running for Senate a couple of weeks before Capehart was elected chairman. Apparently only Hiram and God were aware of this, because it only occurred to Capehart in recent weeks.
Hiram also makes up something else, saying, "in my humble opinion, I believe the same conflict that he criticized Kris Warner over will exist if he
remains chairman."
Capehart, of course, never criticized Kris Warner, at least not that I ever heard, nor anyone else I know. I would be most interested in Hiram presenting some evidence of Capehart criticizing Warner.
In fact, upon Capehart's election, Kris Warner told the press that Capehart was one of the few "principled Republicans" in West Virginia.
Hiram throws my name out there, too, claiming something about me helping to create leaks to back up the notion that Capehart is supported by national party leaders.
I never said any such thing, of course. I said a lot of people are trying to convince national party leaders to support Capehart.
Which they will, but hey, that's not a leak, it's a fact.
Wow! You joined FR tomorrow.
