The following was heard on a Youngstown, Ohio (Big GM Lordstown Plant location) radio station 570 WKBN, Monday, when GM announced the closing of 9 plants and the firing of 30,000 workers.

The statement that Republicans should be blamed for GM's troubles was made by no less than Rick Wagoner, President of General Motors, North American Division. Fax was sent in CAPS.

DEAR RICK WAGONER, PRESIDENT OF GENERAL MOTORS NORTH AMERICA;

I HEARD YOU THIS MORNING ON A TALK RADIO PROGRAM BLAMING REPUBLICANS FOR THE MASSIVE FIRINGS AND PLANT SHUTDOWNS THAT GM IS PLANNING.

YOU SAID, "THE REPUBLICANS WANT TO LOWER UNITED STATES ECONOMIC STANDARDS SO THAT THE REST OF THE WORLD MAY IMPROVE ITS ECONOMY."

I BEG YOUR PARDON, MR WAGONER, I BELIEVE IT HAS BEEN THE DEMOCRATS POSITION TO: DESTROY PUBLIC EDUCATION; PROHIBIT ALTERNATIVE OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION; RESTRICT ENVIROMENTAL POLLUTION BEYOND WHAT IS NECESSARY, THUS MAKING IT HARDER FOR AMERICAN COMPANIES TO COMPETE; DEPRIVE BUSINESS OF PROFITS BY FORCING THE HIRING OF UNQUALIFIED WORKERS VIA AFFIRMATIVE ACTION LAWS; SUPPORT THE HIGH COST OF LITIGATION FOR BUSINESSES; CONSTANTLY PUSH FOR HIGHER TAXATION, SPOIL UNIONS, ETC.

NO, MR WAGONER, THE REPUBLICANS HAVE WANTED THE U.S. TO EXCEL, WHILE DEMOCRATS HAVE BEEN HISTORICALLY ANTI-BUSINESS AND VERY PRO SOCIALISM.

What was Wagoner's direct quote? I haven't heard it or read it anywhere.

They might do better if they get rid of Mr. Wagoner and all those who don't want America to excel. Since most of GM is probably full of union leftists, that would actually create so many openings that restructuring would be easy and their workforce would improve dramatically.

If GM had started building their plants/cars overseas 30 years ago....we all would have lost sooner.

Close all the plants and send the work to China. Will we get autos for one third the price? I dont think so. Wonder why.

Exactly. Have you seen how mega-rich those "managers" are? They could unsink GM all by their lonesomes with their $$$.

Who does he think buys GM? Republicans. Democrats buy Volvos, Audis, Volkswagon, rickshaws, etc.

Way too piss off your customers.

Good heavens. I work for a subsidiary of GM, and if Wagoner really said this, he is gonna hear it from me!!!

Earth to Rick: It wasn't Republicans that made GM sign a stupid contract with the UAW that requires it to keep paying workers full salary even after they are laid off.

I like how Liberals I meet point out the corruption uncovered, investigated, and prosecuted during the past 5 years as if corruption were a new phenomena. I like it even more when I point out that most of these cases were the result of corruption that occurred in the 1990s under a different President's watch.

Then they come back with some newer example of corruption uncovered, investigated, and prosecuted that occurred since 2001. That's when I point out the fact that at least someone is investigating and prosecuting the corruption now, rather than letting it fester and grow for the next administration to deal with.
