I believe (though am not certain) the Catholic Church will still consider a person Catholic unless they actually renounce the Catholic faith. Regardless, God still loves us irrespective of the formal or informal religion we subscribe to.

I think it depends on the individual parish somewhat...I had been a Catholic early in life...a buddy convinced me to go back to the Catholic Church after many years...suggested that I go through confirmation again...

The Presbyterian Church, on the other hand, was really easy to join.
