Judy Miller is the New York Times reporter who refused to give up the name Vice President Dick Cheney's Chief of Staff as her source in a story she wrote on the leaked name of a former CIA agent. Despite being released by her source to give up his identity, Miller opted to spend 85 days in prison rather than release his name. Well now we know why.

I'd take that payout. Put me in jail for a few months for 1.2 million? In a heartbeat. So long as I get to be in solitary so I don't make friends with Mac.

I wonder why her stunt doesn't qualify as contempt of court. She did not release the name of her source, not to protect her source or for reasons of journalistic integrity, but for the financial enhancement the publicity would bring.

I would think the judge would be livid.
