I was trolling the site of the Intellectual Insurgent and came across this neat test. It can help you identify where you truly fall on the ideological spectrum.

The questions are kind of simplistic, but they did nail me.

I came up as a solid Libertarian. Interesting.

Scored "Right Conservative" - that was fun. Learned what a "statist" is.

I'm a (small "L") libertarian, anyway...but the test is skewed to produce a high number of "Libertarians" by asking the questions in a way that makes libertarian ideals sound appealing while ignoring the potential downsides. It isn't a fair assessment. Notice how only 7% of responders score as Conservatives - because the questions are phrased to make a Conservative answer seem unreasonable.

Although the descriptions do explain the new "Statist Consensus" emerging in Washington, DC. Democrats are willing to give up their traditional insistence on personal freedom to get the economic controls they want - Republicans are willing to give up their traditional insistence on economic freedom to get the social controls they want. Both parties seem to agree that Statism, while perhaps not ideal, will at least keep them employed...but Libertarianism is a frightful precipice that they don't want to go anywhere near.

I've seen this before, although I remember that "End government barriers to international free trade" used to be something like "Let peacable people cross international borders freely". They probably got too many "No"s for their liking on that question. So take the results with a 40 lb. bag of salt.

True. The questions do skew towards making conservative answers sound unreasonable. But isn't that how we are viewed by society anyway?

When I took the test, I did believe find my answers could be perceived as "out there." But I had to remain faithful to my principles. Once again, isn't that a challenge that we conservatives face on a regular basis in this "anything goes" society?

That test AGAIN?

Solid in the Libertarian corner. Been that way since 1996.

awww...geez... not this test again.

I know I'm a libertarian. But I've met too many Libertarians who are just plain nutty to join the party.

Locally, the leader of the Libertarian party also ran a website for WAR (White Aryan Resistance). I'm not down with that.
