I generally like Jesse Lee Peterson, but here I think he's being too harsh. I just arrived home from Lake Charles where I spent two weeks as a volunteer nurse for the Red Cross in the Civic Center shelter. 90% of the evacuees, and all but 4 or 5 of them where black, were wonderful, patient and unfailingly polite people. In fact, I dare say they were a lot more patient in their tribulations than many of us in the North would have been. Even when we ultimately had to disappoint them over and over due to a lack of supplies, etc; they were incredibly patient and understanding.
I agree with a previous poster. It's a shame a small minority ruin it for the majority.
