I read about something like this before and thought it was interesting. BTW, the CAPS are the authors, not mine.

Interesting, but it simply does not work. Heat feeds a storm.

You know, I think this guy has about 500 million dollars in a bank in Switzerland that he'd be happy to share with you if you'd just give him your checking account number.

We're short of ideas that will work, but a hydrogen bomb would have unintended consequences....like radiation, loss of fish, etc. Plus the wind would blow radiation all over the world like Chernobyl.

Great idea. Let's try it out first on a typhoon in SE Asia.

Does it work on tornadoes and forest fires, too?

Stopping a hurricane with even the biggest H bomb would be like stopping an elephant with a spit ball. And it would only add nasty fallout to the storm.

People still don't realize that nature completly dwarfs anything man can devise.

I dunno, an H-bomb could just make the storm bigger...but I really like the way this guy thinks!

Hmmm, I've always wondered what would happen if you drop an H-Bomb into a hurricane. Actually it has been proposed back in the 1950's as some sort of weather manipulation or control. There was a Walt Disney "Wonderful World of Walt Disney" science cartoon that depicted such an idea where H-Bombs could be used to either obliterate or drive hurricanes away. It was done around 1955 or so where weather satellites and radar picked up a hurricane heading for the Carolinas and things go into action where they would launch an H-Bomb on a Tomahawk-like cruise missile into the hurricane. I think in reality, it would be tough to do this in the Gulf on Mexico, you have things like oil rigs and so on out there, it wouldn't be feasable. Still, I think the coolness factor would be is to take a Titan II 9 megger and dump it right into the eye. For added "craps and giggles" make a Tsar Bomba (57 megatons but the Soviets said it could do a 100) and do the same thing.

A nuke WOULD dissipate the hurricane, but it would cause an entirely new set of issues, chiefly, pollution, radioactivity of the water and what lives in that water, probably some sort of Tsunami would accompany it. The water would have to go somewhere.

There is a purpose in nature for a hurricane, when ocean temperatures heat up, these storms cool the ocean surface by upwelling the cooler water from beneath. They also maintain temperature balances throughout the globe.

You wanna see major damage to the earth, just start screwing around with trying something on a scale of what it'd take for a hurricane.

I've live along the coast all my life, there is a price to pay besides the normal living expenses, it's called FLOOD insurance, it's part of coastal life.

Accept that there will always be the possibility that between June and November, your life will most likely be disrupted during evacuations with travel costs and lost income. If your area does get hit, be ready that you may loose everything you own and have to start all over again.

It's the price we pay and MUST accept for ourselves this responsibility to live at the coast.

I guess he didn't think about the size of a tsunami that could kill thousands along the coast line. I would imagine it would be huge.
