ABC News Coverage of President Bush's speech
Coverage of Presidential Speech | ABC New

Posted on 09/15/2005 6:38:09 PM PDT by notpoliticallycorewrecked

After President Bush's speech an ABC new correspondant interviewed a few of those that are displaced by the hurricane.

It was a priceless moment. A middle age Black woman was asked if she was angry at President Bush because of the slow response of the federal goverment. She hit the nail on the head with her reply. She stated that she was not angry at Bush, but that she was angry at Nagin and Blaco for their lack of response. She also wanted to know why they didn't use the school buses to evacuate the city.

The correspondant then tried again with an older black women to see if he could get the "proper" response. No such luck, she stated that she beleives the President and had faith in his program.

I saw Barbour and was very impressed with him.

But for the first time in a while, I wish I had ABC on.

Man! It was priceless, how those people were obviously THINKING FOR THEMSELVES. That reporter kept couching his questions in every which a way in order to get even one THIS IS ALL BUSH'S FAULT! but NO DICE. One younger lady laid it directly at Nagin's doorstep and they kept mentioning all the buses the local government had at their disposal. One older lady said that she had a chance to evacuate before the storm but didn't believe it would be bad, so she didn't. These people were THINKING FOR THEMSELVES and it was FANTASTIC! President Bush has allowed Nagin and Blanco to save some major face, the mark of a superior man.

I saw the MS gov, he did the rounds on all the cable news shows, he showed himself a leader in all respects. He said Mississippi devastated citizens were helping each other and starting to clean up soon as the storm was over, not standing around wringing their hands waiting.

Haley is not only a leader, but getting good PR for our country in showing Americans for what they are, optimistic fighters. It may have been subtle, but detected bit of a 8itch slap at the LA pols.

Likely she was trying to emulate a CNN get angry minute.

I have to say tonight I am frustrated beyond belief. I watched what I thought was the best, most hopeful speech I have ever heard a politician give in my 50 years. It was inspiring and honest. It gave hope that all America will pull together, that the people of this country will rebuilt a better gulf coast. That the poor will have a better place to live and raise their families. It was extremely moving and I wept through parts of it, because I too deeply feel for these thousands of Americans who have suffered so much.

I then make the mistake of watching the commentators afterwords. On Fox with Britt Hume, they talked about it being a speech from someone who doesn't know how to give speeches. They played it down and were negative. Scarborough was insulting and demeaning to the president. He has sunk so low and is just like all the other blow-hard know-it-alls on tv exploiting himself at the expense of our country... CNN was just cynical as usual.

I am so disheartened by the media. They have hit an all-time low. In a time when we need to rally the country, to work together as a team they look for avenues to deride and insult the president and his job. Coming from what I believe was the most positive and hopeful speech I have heard to this garbage of media mud slingers. Those who attack this president and any effort to keep the public incited to hatred is un American and inhuman to all who need to begin healing the wounds at this devastating time.

Once we use to herald 'United we Stand', now we just go for the throat... The media is turning this country into a spoiled, selfish society who show no patriotism or loyalty to our leaders. I am sickened and ashamed. Sometimes, I listen to the media and I think why doesn't President Bush just walk away from it all? Why doesn't he just say he has had enough of the mean spirited, hateful, un-American media and quit. Now, wouldn't they all be thrilled with President Cheney. They should count their lucky stars they have a president with as much compassion, work ethic and character as Bush. I don't think we will see the likes of this kind of president again in our lifetimes. This country will get just what its people deserve.

One of the more liberal black leaders (can't remember his name) was stating that Bush blew up the levees.

That was no liberal; that was Screwy Louie Farrakhan.

how the President's shirt exactly matched the color of the illuminated cathedral so that his body visually blended into and became part of the church, and the line of his shoulder became a buttress.

It was ethereal, wasn't it? And imagine the refugees who long to go back home seeing their city, with a supportive Prez, explaining how they might have a better life back in NOLA, afterall?

"They, who saw it up close and personal, told the truth. One lady said she didn't believe the hurricane was going to be that bad TOOK RESPONSIBILITY for her own foolishness. Another laid the blame on the state and local authorities not once, BUT TWICE in the same interview!"

Priceless!

I caught the Doom and Gloom response from Tim Russert as well. He has disappointed me in so many levels, but last night he was shameful and downright nasty toward Bush. I was so mad, that I turned stations, just in time to see the lady on ABC(although I was thinking it was CBS?) bad mouth the local and state governments for not evacuating the city properly.

That made my night. If I had her address, I'd send her some donations.

I listen to the media and I think why doesn't President Bush just walk away from it all

President Bush should do this instead........

Have a Prime Time Press Conference for lets say 9:00PM.
(Keeping it a secret before Press Conference)
Once the Press Conference goes live President Bush would tell the media to please get up out of their chairs and walk to the back of the room along the wall. Then have citizens of the United States walk into the room and sit in the chairs where the media was sitting at. Then have the citizens of the United States ask all the questons.

LOL ROF!!!

Then from that day foward have the media stand in the back of the room at all Press Conference's while the citizens of the United States ask all the questons.

Thanks for the link.

The title says it all. I wonder when ABC will change their motto from "A Biased Communication system to A Balanced Communication system. I am not holding my breath, it wouldn't be healthy. But meanwhile Fox News continutes to dominate in the ratings.
