The "Islamic Republic of Qaim" Crock

Last week, the Washington Post reported that the border city of Qaim was overrun by al Qaeda jihadis, who soon afterward declared it the "Islamic Republic of Qaim" and proceeded to implement Shariah law. These claims have been under no uncertain terms refuted by the Marines:

Maj. Neil Murphy, a spokesman for II Marine Expeditionary Force, told Marine Corps Times that reports detailing an all-out al-Qaeda takeover in Qaim were a “crock of crap.”

“Sure, anyone can hang up a poster. That does not mean anything,” Murphy wrote in an e-mail response to questions. “We have a battalion there. [The insurgents] are continually moving to try and find safety, but we are rooting them out and we’ll root them out of Qaim, too.”

The security situation in Western Anbar is by no means stable, as the recent combat in Qaim, Husaybah and other towns along the Euphrates River demonstrates. Pro and anti al Qaeda tribes are engaged in open combat. But al Qaeda as been on the receiving end of some devastating air attacks, which cost them three leaders. Their ability to take and hold territory is greatly exaggerated by the media.

The Washington Post had this story right when they referred to al Qaeda’s declaration as a show of force, yet proceeded to project an image of al Qaeda strength and command of the city. Perhaps they should have crosschecked the statements of their unidentified sources in Qaim with the battalion of U.S. Marines currently stationed there.

For me that observance may be going on say fifteen years. And highly suspect in some cases, long before that.

Can't fault that observation. Hopefully more people shall discover alternate news feeds via. Internet. But as has been said elsewhere, many millions don't have the resources for this so the keep on watching the moron box for news.

Right now all the fighting is at the very Western border of Iraq. The terrorists are obviously being pushed further and further West with every month that goes by.

The "Iraq is a disaster" chorus has dramatically subsided for some reason.

You certainly are correct in the chorus subsiding in decibels.

However. If I may. I threw together a quick map that will show where the fighting and area to be sealed off to the Syrian border is to take place, it is within the YELLOW area. To the far west along the Syrian border we see in blue the basic area that our main Marine Bn's are currently operating in. The yellow AO is under the US Army and Iraqi Army AO.

Once the yellow area which includes the area around the city of Tal Afar going west toward Syria, and eastward toward Mosul are cleanly sweeped, and Iraqi troops are left in place to permanently keep new goons from getting in, the next step as advertised in similiar posts today, indicate a very heavy movement will then begin in the blue area, again to seal off once and for all the Syrian border crossings and remove all goons from those many towns and cities within the blue area. As you can surmise, in the eastern side of the blue area is where the Euphrates river is, e.g. north/south toward Baghdad, and contains many of the larger cities in Al Anbar. They must be once and for all sweeped then have adequate Iraqi forces occupy them to keep goons from slipping back in that escape from other battles and seek refuge.

Main thing is this has been ongoing and growing in intensity ever since May of this year. And it will not let up. No more safe havens for the local and foreign goons. That is the game plan.
