Actually, my intent in the essay and on the lesson on preparedness is to have a one or two year supply of food and necessities at home...the 96 hour kit is if you have to leave home to get out of danger.

In that case, your home may end up being destroyed and if that happens, then having another location, or cache, is a good idea. But it would probably be non-parishable, long term stuff that you didn;t rotate through like you do at home.

Head of State of the Department of Homeland Security in charge of the response

Head of the STATE Department of Homeland Security. As in the State of Louisiana's Department of Homeland Security. As you keep ignoring, STATE Authority and then either only under a collapse of official State Govt or if the state is acting in defiance of the Federal Authority (i.e Court ordered Desegregation)

Question nascardaughter, You claim the law allows " Another way to look at it is this: the National Guard has been federalized before without state officials' permission, as people have pointed out elsewhere on this thread

Provide proof of these statements you claim have been posted here. The ONLY person making these fraudulent claims about the NG is you. Quoting yourself as people" is intelletually dishonest

What you continually ignore is the NG cannot be Federalized to perform domestic Law Enforcement functions EXCEPT if the State authority has collapsed or is in defiance of Federal authority. The State Govt had not collapsed, it performed criminally incompetently but it was NOT in a state of collapse.

From the Washington Post, Sunday Sept 4th. Under the Stafford Act Gov Blanco has got to agree to the Federalizing of the Effort before it the Federal Authority can take over. She has, and is still refusing. So what nascardaughter is doing is selectively reading the parts of the Law that conform to her ideological bigotry and ignoring the facts that contradict what she DOES NOT want to accept.

Our founders understood that too. One of my favorite quotes is this one by John Adams:
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."- John Adams, Oct. 11, 1798
It has direct applicability in events like this.

Thanks. Spread it around to whomever you like.

You may consider using the one I published on my site ... HERE.

I corrected typos, updated some of the emergency items per this thread, and added a seventh critical lesson (one the leftist will not countenance all the more - too bad) there.

Great advice , sad that it has to be given.

The governor could have taken a few people out as you said also, the press could have given directions too. Shepherd Smith sat there on the freeway and act like he didn't know where he was at.

If there are volatile compounds (say, petroleum distillates) with a boiling point less than that of water in the mix, that is true. Though if you think that's an issue, you could get rid of most of them by bringing the water to an open boil for a little while, and then connecting up the condensing coil after most of the volatiles had boiled off into the air.

>>Lousiana declared a state of emergency on August 26.

What does that have to do with the price of eggs?

Declaring a local state of emergency is not the same as inviting the Feds to take over.

Common sense has fled with the winds. I view much of the above as simple common sense.

As you say...too bad it even needs to be pointed out.

Supply and Feed the block? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Know your limits at all times, AND WATCH YOUR STUFF.

In my case, a bachelor (Ladies?) Christian/Druid sort, in homes around around my house there are ~12 kids and several youngish 30-something and 40-something moms with traveling husbands. I stock plenty for me as I have mentioned (2 years so far, bland dried foods and canned goods) enough adequate meals (2 cups of cooked spiced beans & rice/day + a cup of veggies and 1 cup of cnned fruit/person) and medi-supplies and toys for the kids, even for a survivable nuke blast: "minor sort of" burns, crush, glass injuries to get over the shock until Plan B through Z get established. In such a case, I pray that I would be the supplier for an RN/M.D. who stays in the 'hood as can I do the "no one else is coming" messy first-responder triage work, because at best my skills are incompetent if thorough. We all need help in crisis; an idle mind is the Devils workshop.

Stay productive, not just busy when threatened.

I use the term "random tribes" to mean the groups of survivors who meet up with 2-way judging any small group as to worth for all pulling together, self-defense duties, and sharing the somethings (most people demand equal access to the bounty (others - the ants and grasshoppers) which is sick - if/when a bad actor gets involved - RUN THEM OFF or summary execution as it may be required.

Always be discrete with your weapons.

I have nothing which I am unwilling to give awayto the worthy AS I JUDGE THEM, but I shall use DEADLY FORCE against those who attempt to steal it. We're discussing issues of life and death.

The "leaders" in LA and NO are incapable of making decisions. This is why 'character' matters in our leaders so they can make tough decisions that may hurt them politically but are morally the right thing to do.

When I heard the ding dong gov. saying she couldn't decide on mandatory evacuations because she wanted to see if the water was really dangerous or not yesterday I wondered if this was a Saturday Night Live skit. The city attny. is saying mandatory evacuations but no one will be forced out. How much extra time is being spent going to the same houses over and over trying to talk people into leaving? Why do they think people will leave since they have already been clear they won't enforce their non mandatory-mandatory evacuation.

Anyway, good points on getting an emergency kit of items that would be needed for an extended period. I just don't understand why so many people thought they could stay anywhere near Katrina. When I could actually make out the 'eye' of the hurricane that I usually don't see (lol)I knew this was going to be historic.

Didn't the Governor called for mandatory evacuations on Monday, when the storm hit?

Just a reminder, people: If you have or are building your preparedness kits, and you have children, be sure to check that the clothes/shoes you've packed away still fit the kiddos.

You know how fast they grow out of stuff. This was brought home to us when we went through the girl's closet in preparation for the change of seasons. Ouch!
