He sent his knives to a Captain currently serving in Iraq, who then chose who in his group would receive the knives.
In the picture below, the SGT on the second row, far left received a knife, on the day he became a US citizen! The second knife went to the SGT in the center front of the photo, who as Hunble described, "is responsible for the majority of the convoy operations and was judged to be the most likely to be present if attacked with an IED. If anyone could save a life with a rescue knife, it would be him."
Man... it's really flat and desolate there.
And we complain of crowded uncomfortable quarters when we fly...
