Pakistan refuses to take action against London terror suspects

25 July 2005: Britain and Pakistan have got into a stand-off situation in respect of three imams linked to the London bombings who have gone into hiding in the Binori madrasa in Karachi, the training ground of the Jaish-e-Mohammad, and the Lashkar-e-Toiba headquarters in Muridke outside Lahore.

Diplomatic sources said British prime minister Tony Blair insisted on Pakistan raiding these places and arresting the imams, who are said to have masterminded the bombing, but General Parvez Musharraf refused, saying the government had no firm indication of their presence there, and the UK did not share a level of relationship where it could seek such action.

Sources said that in anger, Blair asked Musharraf to make his refusal public, which the general declined to do, whereupon he sought US intervention, and the American secretary of state, Condoleezaa Rice, spoke to the Pakistani president, but without moving him.

Mush needs "an offer he can't refuse".

It's just a matter of time before he's gone anyway. Bush won't do anything to make his life more difficult because he doesn't want to demonstrate ingratitude for the help he's given. But the minute Musharraf is gone, our policy is going to change with respect to Pakistan.

Musharraf knows that he will be overthrown by radicals if he does not provide sanctuary.
Musharraf also knows that Pakistan will be invaded by the U.S. if he does not control
his nuclear weapons and occasionally toss us a bone.
The radicals also understand that they would lose their sanctuary if not for Musharraf.
So they bide their time and grow in Pakistan.

And with regard to my use of the word "fear"...it is just a word used interchangeably with the word "doubt."

I am not afraid because I already know who is going to win the war between good and evil.

I've been saying the same thing for a long time. people just don't see all that has happened-covertly- like the dismantling of the nuke ring, the inroads Bush has made, where none had existed before. Musharraff has been a usefull idiot. But, he's running out of time, unless he decides to retain power. If a change of leadership happens, things and relations can change in a hurry as well.

"My point is that Islam is not a government...it is the religion of evil"

Wrong. Islam is all, religion cult, government and justice. It's a totalitarian system. Evil as hell, but that's what it is. Where do you think Hitler got his ideas from?

Satan. The same source of ideas for the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem.

"The Government of Pakistan, and Musharraf in particular, seems afraid to attack this nest of vipers."

Because, like the Mullah mafia in Iran, they are everywhere, intertwined throughout the public, in the police depts, government, down to the local basket weaver. He's have to gun down half the population to get rid of (most) of them. The best time to do that is when they gather in the streets by the thousands in a noisy protest shouting 'death to America".

that wouldn't go over very well though. media would brand him as another 'Slobidan'. The next thing you know, democrats would be in power again, and go bomb the wrong side.

" Evil is far to great to be threaten by any government structure no matter how divine in origin. "

I understand your point that the evil in Islam is more fundamental than the nature of a government, but it’s important to understand that such an evil can not thrive in a Democracy. The two are fundamentally incompatible. Either the democracy will fade into a façade of democracy like in Saudi Arabia or Islam will mix and/or reform like in Turkey and Indonesia. Since declaring war on an idea (Islamism) rather than a practice is incompatible with a good in democracy, we’ve instead chosen a strategy of aggressively promoting democracies at Islam’s geographical and ideological core rather than attacking Islam directly.

So that’s why I took issue with your “concern” that democracy is no match for Islam. We’re going to force it to reform for it’s survival (and for ours).

well, yea, it does boil down to that. Satan is the source of Islam. Muhammad's "angel of light". and "lord of the jinn". It's the gospel of demons, according to the koran.

Qur’an 72:1 “Say (Muhammad): ‘It has been revealed to me that a group of (three to ten) Jinn [demons or devils] listened (to the Qur’an). They said, “We have heard a really wonderful recital (of this Qur’an)! It guides to the Right Path. We have come to believe it. We shall not associate anything with our Lord.”

Too bad Muslims can't see that they are worshiping Satan, not God.

I hope you are correct. But up until now, democracy has come at a great price...one that must be bravely and willingly paid by those who want it. Can democracy be forced on anyone? I guess we are about to find out.

If the overwhelming majority wants it, is it forced? I think that we’re just enabling, promoting and defending it at its most vulnerable stage.

Pakistan raiding the Binori mosque would be something else.

Bernard Henri Levy (Who Killed Danny Pearl) speculates on its pivotal role in Jihad. Others have speculated that this was where Osama hid from ToraBora onwards thru the winter and spring of 2002. Perhaps Danny stumbled on some intriguing hints about this.

But even tho Indira Gandhi smashed the Paki sponsored Khalistanis by raiding the Golden Temple, I doubt Mush would have the guts to do this, even IF he actually wanted to.

Indira Gandhi was a courageous woman who had the guts to take on the terrorist even at the cost of her life.

Mushy is a "Commando" from the Pakistan Army who acts scared of putting his own ba77s on the line and yet the world hails the scum bag as a hero on GWOT.

heck, the muslim extremists have been trying to give him one for some time now. It is amazing he is still alive.

If he goes, whoever takes his place is going to be far less pro-US. Like the Saudi royal family, he is far better for us than what would replace them. Given those options, it makes no sense at all to act against him. It isn't like the covert assistance he surely gives the US makes front pages or anything, he cannot afford for it to.

The bush administration understands this, clearly.

ZUIT!

Now I got to wrack my brain to remember the brainiac who was arguing (on a Tancredo thread) early this morning that as long as we pretent that muslim are our helpful friends in the war on terror, we can pretend that they actually help.
