One of Buchanan's better pieces...which have been becoming more rare lately.
Now I now Roberts will be great.
One wonders, why did the president not choose one of them? Why did he decide not to fight?
Because replacing O'Connor is an opportunity to shift the court to the right. Bush nominated an extremely conservative Judge, but one that the Dems will have an impossible time to lay a glove on. Roberts will shift the court to the right, and the BIGGEST compaint will be that Roberts is a white male. Bush will answer that by giving them most likely Janice Rogers Brown to replace Rehnquist. Bush is setting the table to go to a Conservative with a long paper trail on the next pick.
But is Roe v Wade good or bad for Republican presidential politics? [READ - Why do Republican Presidents appoint stealth pro-abortion SC justices?]
If Roe were in States, Kerry could have been elected. Having the abortion issue to run on has given the GOP a winning issue.
This is Santorum's [GOP leadership] problem - practice good election politics [Specter] or choose life. [READ - GOP growth of the RINO]
Buchanan is right. Roberts holds in his hands the future of life, Bush and perhaps the GOP. Let's hope Bush got the right one, baby.
Great article by Pat. Although Ann Coulters colunm was better. The problem is the conservatives don't want to fight - and thats the only way we're going to get more Scalia's on the court.
The left loves to fight, the right doesn't - one of the many reasons they seem to always win.
