India the new China?....
The Arsenal of Democracy ^ | 07/20/05 | Andrew Surprise

" India has a developed and growing high tech sector. It also has a major service sector thanks to the growth of outsourced US call-center jobs being relocated there. It's economic growth has been high and steady for the past decade, due in large part to its highly educated, english speaking, middle-class, which now numbers about 300 million,( the entire population of the United States). While there is still great poverty in India, it is being reduced steadily and gradually, its overall GDP growth is widely expected to be about 7.2% for 2005, that is very near China's expected growth of 9%."

" India is also a major world military and nuclear power, and likely would have no problem defeating any European nation in open warfare, including Britian. The US has concluded that India has the ability to become a strategic bulwark both militarily and economically against Chinese domination of Asia. It is likely that the US concession of nuclear technology was not only meant to secure energy supplies for India, but was also meant to garner support in the Indian government for the purchase of Boeing F/A 18 Super Hornet, or Lockheed Martin F-16 fighter jets. India is planning to make a major purchase of 126 fighters, and because India usually makes "big-ticket purchases to serve larger geopolitical ends" it is likely the Bush administration may have made this deal. Not only does this beef up the IAF it also allows it to become interoperable with the USAF. The Bush administration clearly has the long-term vision of containing China in Asia, and the warden of the jail is India."

I think this guy knows what he's talking about. I came across his blog when I was searching google for postings on India on FR. I remembered him posting something about it a month or so ago, and was interested after I heard the news about the US-India nuclear deal this past week. Looks like he just launched this blog, but if this first post is any indication it looks to be another good conservative blog. ;)

India is both a counterweight to China and an increasingly extremist Pakistan. We need them as an ally in South Asia.

India's best hope for a longterm partnership lie with the US. The US has some options in Asia - these include steadfast allies - Japan and Taiwan and now, increasingly, India.
