Nobody who'd been paying attention expected any different from "Ahnuld."
The assumption is made, of course, that the above statement was made tongue-in-cheek.
Arnold was the media's candidate, without doubt, since the average journalist demonstrably assumes that actions are disconnected from consequences, and that the only thing that really matters is how colorful the candidate is.
Perhaps California still has enough reserve wealth left to be able to afford for a little bit longer to pick candidates based upon such criteria. They have shown no interest in electing a serious conservative to begin to fix the mess, yet, and seem to have every intention to spend their state into the penury record books.
The day will come, however, when, regardless of the splash and glitz of the governor-elect, the voters of the state will have to face economic reality. They will not forever be able to borrow their way clear to continue the economic excesses they have "bestowed" upon themselves.
Until then, I bid them enjoy the subsidization of the most self- destructive policies west of Pennsylvania.
But I would venture to say that as the liberal seeds they have sown begin to bear unignorable bitter fruit, more people than I alone, will have no sympathy to hear the wailing and gnashing of repentant teeth.
Enjoy the party...and pay the bill yourself, later, as it comes. Freedom also means the freedom to self-immolate.
