"Lucky dogs. And fine looking ones, too."

Thank you. They are my best friends and I take very good care of them. They have their own heated and air conditioned building with carpeted floors. I can't figure it out, it can be 97 degrees here and they'll be panting like crazy but, will not go into the cooled building. They're always in there during the winter (heat) and when it rains. Beats me?

"It's fun having a youngster around the house again. "

I agree. I bring my brother's 6 month old Lab over for a visit about once every two weeks. He does perk the others up with all that energy, especially my Australian Shephard. Play, play ,play, lol.

That's the way it is with our Westie. Husband & I were laughing about that just yesterday. In the winter, we have to almost pick her up & toss her out the door to go potty. In the summer, we can't get her inside the house 'til dark and a lot of the time, only very reluctantly. Only one day a couple of weeks ago when it was really hot & humid did she decide to spend most of the afternoon in the house under the a/c. But if two raindrops fall, she's in the basement & under the kid's bed.

Course, we live in Wisconsin & the rodents are under a thick blanket of snow, ice & 3 ft or more of frost in the ground. In the summer, there are moles to dig out, chippers to corner, mice to pounce on & squirrels by the dozens & dozens to keep tree'd.

I'm guessing that it's an adaptation (maybe not the correct scientific term) hard wired in--conservation mode in winter--less game to be found & energy req'd to stay warm...hibernation-like & tied to length of day. I get hyper in the summer & want to sleep all winter, myself.
